My Heart Wasn’t Ready To Change
I first came to the Chemical Recovery Ministry two years ago when I was trying to get my life together and quit using drugs and alcohol. At that time my heart wasn’t ready to change and I continued using.

Last year in 2010 I started studying the bible and found that with my addiction I needed to be around people who were mature in recovery and could relate to me. The ministry met my spiritual needs as a young Christian.

Spiritually Spring Cleaned - Total Recovery
1_1302547363_Spirit.jpgMy wife and I took this past weekend to do some Spring cleaning. We spent two evenings cleaning the house from top to bottom. By the second evening I did not see sleep until 3:30am falling into bed exhausted.

Spring cleaning is an exhausting task on two levels. First there is the actual cleaning work itself but then there is the multitude of decisions that have to be made around what you are going to keep and what you are going to throw away.

Recovery is Simple
One of the last words that Dr Bob Smith said to Bill Wilson (The co-founders of AA) was for him to Keep it Simple. These words are very important for the addict in recovery and it is in this light that the Chemical Recovery Fellowship has Total Recovery as one of its traditions.

Recovery is difficult but it is not complex. It is not easy but it is simple. When first we enter recovery and start to get some time in, we can feel great about it and we should. The life we were living and the drink we were drinking no longer has the same hold on us. We feel that we can do some of the things we could not do before. We can finally complete many of the incomplete projects littering our lives.

Hearing The Message - Willingness To Change
Willingness To ChangeWhat is it going to take for you to change? We don’t like change. As humans, we would prefer most things to stay the way they are. We settle down and get in the groove while enjoying the status quo. The corporate world is well aware of this fact and has written countless books and seminars on managing change and what to expect if someone moves your cheese.

God is a changer. He loves to change things. He himself does not change because He is perfect and not in need of improvement, however we are the ones who need constant improving. We are chunks of rock being ground to diamonds. This requires heat, friction and change. We don’t like that.
