Sin That So Easily Entangles Editor Mar 14 : 13:22
I am only one bad decision away from picking up!
I told myself I would never steal, but I did. I swore to myself I would never be unfaithful to my spouse, but I was. I exclaimed that I would never use drugs! Yet, again and again and again I did! Said I would never lie, cheat, deceive, hurt, or disappoint, but I was unable or unwilling to do it. Powerless. A slave to sin (Read Romans 7) Why? Because sin so easily entangles! Genesis 4:7, puts it this way, " ..But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it." How can we master sin? The key is to do what is right! Titus 2:11-14, shows us the way," ..the grace of God ..teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self controlled and upright and godly lives in this present age.." While driving I can hear an old song that immediately puts me back at that time and place where I was using! When I realize what I'm doing I say," Get behind me Satan! You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of man!" and the temptation is finished! At other times when tempted, I just tell myself, " That has nothing to do with me!" And then...it doesn't. This exercise works for me every time I use it. The problem is I don't always use it! Sometimes I want to indulge myself. When I became a disciple of Jesus Christ, I was given the power to resist Satan and overcome the power of sin - through Jesus Christ! Once I was powerless but now I am powerful. Whenever I forget where this power comes from I am at risk of falling into the pit of slime again! "The Message" translates Romans 7:21 - 8:1 in this way: |
